Chemelot Circular Hub, The transition to green circular chemistry
From cars to soft-drink bottles, from cycling jerseys to doorhandles. Chemistry is an inextricable part of our daily lives. Almost everything around us has its origins in the chemical industry.
Both our daily lives and chemistry are undergoing fundamental changes;
- Through the realization that as humans, we must find new, sustainable ways to reduce the burden on our planet.
- By fighting climate change and calling for an end to CO2 emissions and the spread of plastic waste.
- Through new technology that makes this possible, and the opportunities that arise as a result.
In fact, if we really want to take the step towards a sustainable world, then the chemical industry must take the lead.
In order to produce green raw materials for all these products we use in our daily lives, we need maximum access to solar and wind energy. This also means that production processes the world over have to be redefined, and green and recyclable raw materials must replace the current fossil fuels; in other words, green circular energy. And this demands new methods and new chemical processes, some of which we have yet to invent.
Bearing all this in mind, we can see 2030 as tomorrow and 2050 as the day after…
