A New Step in Lightweighting for the Mobility Industry by Additive Manufacturing of Composites

richard Janssen

Composites have a high mechanical strength but are still light, which is the reason they are used a lot to replace metals in mobility applications. They save weight and as such save fuel and emissions during use of the vehicles that we use to transport goods and ourselves. The upcoming and development of Continuous Fiber Additive Manufacturing technology allows the application of lightweight thermoplastic composites to be used in new and a broader range of applications. The technology allows for complex shapes and smaller series while still meeting mechanical performance. In the presentation this new technology, its potential and the work that Brightlands Materials Center is doing will be presented.
